Morning incident at the Toronto Parson airport
On Tuesday morning, an emergency incident occurred on the territory of Toronto Pieron
International Airport, causing a temporary restriction on one of the runways. The
reason was the fire of the service vehicle located in the maintenance zone.
The incident occurred at about 7:45 am. According to eyewitnesses, thick smoke quickly
rose over one of the service zones next to the steering paths. Employees quickly
reported the situation in the airport security service, after which emergency response
protocols were immediately involved.
Fast reaction and coordinated actions of services
Less than two minutes after the signal arrived at the ignition site, the first fire
combustions, specially on duty at the airport, arrived. Thanks to their coordinated
actions, the open flame was localized for a short time, and the fire did not spread to
other objects or transport.
“This is one of the cases when coherence and staff training really play a key role.
The situation was quickly controlled, ”said the representative of the airport Joel
Freeman.
In the area of the incident, they temporarily suspended the movement of ground
equipment and maintenance of several flights. However, an hour later, most of the
operations were restored.
Security first of all
The airport leadership confirmed that the incident did not have a serious influence on
the general schedule of departures and arrivals. None of the passengers was at risk,
since the incident occurred in a limited technical zone, access to which only
employees have.
Nevertheless, as PEARSON representatives emphasized, any emergency situations are
carefully analyzed, even if they occur outside the passenger zones. Each incident is
an opportunity to once again check the effectiveness of all existing protocols.
Passengers and crews are informed
Despite the fact that the incident did not affect the main terminals, the airport
staff provided passengers with timely information about what was happening. Updates
appeared on the electronic displays, and representatives of airlines in the terminals
answered questions and helped with the renewal of tickets for those whose flight was
briefly postponed.
“This is not the situation that I want to find out in the morning before the flight, but everything was organized-we were not left without information, and the delay was less than half an hour,” the flight passenger in New York shared.
Check and prevention: what will happen next
After the liquidation of the fire, a technical investigation of the causes of the
incident began. According to the preliminary version, the reason was a short circuit
in one of the parts of the service equipment used to transport baggage.
All similar vehicles were temporarily deduced for an unscheduled inspection. Technical
supervision services are already conducting diagnostics in order to exclude the
repetition of such situations in the future.
“Our security standards are one of the highest in the world. We not only eliminate the
consequences, but also analyze the reasons for the smallest details, ”said Kaitlin
Donovan, PEARSON spokesman.
The airport’s work is restored in full
By noon, the airport completely returned to the normal schedule of work. Air and
ground traffic is carried out in standard mode, and updated protocols of technical
verification of equipment entered into force immediately.
Passengers are recommended, as usual, to arrive at the airport in advance and monitor
the status of their flights through official applications and information board.
